BRACKLINN FALLS CIRCULAR

Grade: C+. Distance:7 miles; 4hours. Meet/time: At start of walk at 10.30am Bracklinn Falls Lower CP. Map Ref: NN635083.  Description: Through the woods, by golf club, we pick up old railway tracks to Auchenlaich , Chambered Cairn and hill fort to Bracklinn Falls. We then follow the Keltie Water by forest, returning on quiet road past the Red Well. Ascent: 100m.

Grade: B. Distance:8 miles; 5.5hours. Meet/time: At start of walk at 10am at Castlehill Reservoir CP (off A823). Map Ref:NN997034. : Description: A feel-good walk by Castlehill Reservoir, Downhill, Tormaukin Hill, through Glendevon Forest onto Greenlaw …returning by Borland Glen and Burnfoot. Beautiful views throughout. Ascent 481m.

RIVER SOUTH CALDER CIRCULAR

Grade: C. Distance: 8 miles; 4 hours. Meet/time: 9.30am at VUE CP, Stirling or at 10.15am at Water Sports Centre, Strathclyde Country Park. Map ref: NS732565.  Description: We walk round part of Strathclyde Loch before leaving the Country Park on a path that runs upstream alongside the River South Calder. At Milnwood we make our way by road and paths to the other side of the river and back to the Country Park. Good paths throughout.

THE KILPATRICK HILLS…….DUNCOLM AND THE SLACKS (COACH)

Grade: B+ . Distance: 9 miles; 6 hours. Meet/time: 9am at VUE CP, Stirling for COACH. Map Ref: NS469729.  Description: The Kilpatrick Hills although close to Glasgow give visitors the feeling of a truly wild place. Our ascent is on the good track to Loch Humphrey and as we climb there are fine views of the Erskine Bridge, Dumbarton Rock and the Clyde Estuary. From Loch Humphrey we cross moorland to Duncolm for views over Loch Lomond to the mountains of the north. After retracing our steps to Loch Humphrey our route forks eastwards onto a grassy path to the trig point on the Slacks. This is a sensational viewpoint for much of Glasgow. The walk is on a mixture of good paths and trampled moorland which can be wet underfoot. Ascent 374 m

Grade: C+ . Distance:  8miles; 5 hours. Meet/time: 9am at VUE CP, Stirling for COACH. Map Ref: NS469729. Description: This is an easy walk. Walk around The Saltings to visit Bowling Basin, then back along the F&C canal to go up to and across Erskine Bridge. Continue along by the River Clyde and through Erskine Hospital grounds. We include a visit to Erskine Garden Centre before re-crossing the bridge. Negligible ascent.

BURNTISLAND to DALGETY BAY. (Fife Coastal Path) 

Grade C.  8 miles. 4 hours. Meet/time: At 10.20am at Dalgety Bay Station CP to catch 1037 bus. Description:   An interesting and beautiful section of the Fife Coastal Path…..passing the Silversands of Aberdour with all day views across the Firth of Forth.

BEN LEDI ……nearer to God with SRC!!!!

Grade: B+. Distance 7miles Meet/time:  10:30am at CP on left over the bridge on A84  15mins north of Callander   Map Ref: NN586091. Description: Ben Ledi (the mountain of God,  is a familiar landmark from Callander and the highest mountain in the main part of the Trossachs. It’s a very popular Corbett hillwalk and its position on the edge of the Highlands makes it an excellent viewpoint. Good views back up Loch Lubnaig for most of the ascent onto the ridge.  Glen Finglas Reservoir, the Arrochar Alps, Loch Venachar and Loch Arklet can all be seen from the top on a good day.A well walked, newly constituted path makes the 760m ascent relatively easy. Meeting at Coldingham village centre bus stop 10.30am. Description: We pick up the coastal path at Coldingham Bay and follow to St Abbs harbour.  Entering the Natural Nature Reserve, we follow a series of wide paths to view the habitats of many birds that nest in surrounding cliffs, …with stunning horizons over the North Sea. Some Members….may wish to only visit the Visitor Centre, St Abbs and to browse along the clifftop paths at their leisure….,also a grand day out.

Description C+ walk: From the village,..we’ll pass a Rennie McIntosh house to follow the Loch Katrine pipeline to open countryside. We take a slow climb on Landrover tracks ..with splendid vistas of the Trossachs ..to the base of Dumgoyne, then descend to pipeline to follow back to village. Leader Denis Taylor

KILLIN TO LOCHEARNHEAD (COACH)

Grade: C+ or C . Distance: 8 or 5 miles; 5 or 3 hours. Meet/time: 9.30am at VUE CP, Stirling for COACH to Killin Map Ref: NN593238.  Description: : From Killin we head south on a waymarked section of the Rob Roy Way as it climbs through forest to meet the disused Oban Railway line. En route views of the mountains open up; first to The Tarmachen Ridge and Ben Lawyers; later Ben Vorlich and Stuc a’ Chroin. Our route then gradually descends the high section of the Glen Ogle Trail crossing the viaduct; a well known landmark as seen from the main road below. Shortly after this Loch Earn comes into view and we leave the former railway line for the final descent to the car park in Lochearnhead.

The route throughout is part of a National Cycle Route and accordingly is well surfaced. You may want to consider stout walking shoes rather than heavier walking boots. Ascent 200m. Coach £10.

Once on top we follow good tracks to the summit of Carleatheran, where we have some fantastic views before an easy descent to Gargunnock. Ascent 500m

CHATELHERAULT COUNTRY PARK….HAMILTON

GradeC. Distance: 8 miles or less. 4 hours. For those wanting a shorter mileage the distance from Strathclyde Park to the Hunting Lodge and back is 5.5 miles. You could also have lunch at their Cafe.

Meet/time: 9.30am at VUE CP, Stirling. (we will travel together in convoy ) or start of walk at 10.15am at Strathclyde Park Water Sports Centre. Description: We follow good paths through this most natural park with its unique breed of Cadzow cattle, oak trees and the river Avon.  We’ll also stop at the Hunting Lodge Visitor Centre with its modern museum screens …..telling the history of the Hamilton Family’s past. After we walk to the Visitor Centre,  for those wishing to do less miles,….there are short walks to suit.

BIRKS of ABERFELDY & RIVER TAY PATH to KENMORE (COACH)

 GradeC+ (& option for C walkers). Distance 11 miles( C +). 5 hours.  Meet/time: Coach leaving VUE at 9am for 10.30am at Birks of Aberfeldy  CP  Description: The beautiful woodland of Birks flanks waterfalls in the Moness gorge. A moderate-going circular walk, including steps, follows the Moness Burn and climbs to a bridge over the Falls of Moness, which offers spectacular views into the gorge.   This picturesque walk then extends over Wade’s Bridge …where we pick up the path along the River Tay… to finish at Kenmore. Price £10.

Led by Jacci,  C Walkers will slowly explore the The Birks and the Town’s landmark’s ….including lunch at a local eatery.   In early afternoon …C Walkers will be taken by coach to Kenmore to meet up with C + Walkers.

FALKLAND & EAST LOMOND CIRCUIT

Grade: C+/B. Distance: 6 miles; 4 hours. Meet/time: At 10.30am at start of walk at Falkland Estate CP. (500m west of Palace…past sign for “The Hidden Place”) Map Ref:  NO247075  .  Description: A circular walk through the Falkland Estates and up through the intriguing Maspie Den to Craigmead on the pass between East and West Lomond.  Along the crest to the limekilns, and then either round the base of East Lomond, or over the top (fantastic views from site of Iron Age fort).  Then down the stepped path through the woods and return to the start through the historic streets of Falkland. Mostly on good paths and tracks, with a bit of roughish hillside round or over the hill. Ascent 300m (400m including ascent East Lomond)

Grade: C. Distance: 8 miles; 4 hours. Meet/time: 10.15am at main CP in Callendar Park, Falkirk. We then walk to Bus Station to catch the 10.35 No3 bus to start of walk at the railway bridge over Greenbank Rd in Camelon.

Description: We walk along the Union Canal to the Bantaskine Estate and then proceed to Lionthorn Estate, from where we make our way to Callendar Park by various local paths. Ascent 146m.

CASTLEHILL RESERVOIR TO DOLLAR (FREE COACH ONE WAY )

Grade: C+ . Distance: 8 miles; 5 hours. Meet/time: 9.45am at Bridge Street Dollar for coach transfer to start of walk at Castlehill Reservoir CP. Map Ref: NS963980.  Description: : A fine linear walk from Castlehill Reservoir in Glen Devon through Pool of Muckhart and Vicar’s Bridge to Dollar. Pleasantly changing scenery on hill paths, farm tracks and minor roads. The first mile and a half can be described as undulating without any long climbs. After Muckhart the route descends gradually to Dollar.

(Park Greenside/Candelriggs CPs) Map Ref: NS887927.  Description: From Alloa, we visit the oldest antiquity in the “Wee County” ….as we head for Clackmannan Tower for a mid-day Tour given by Heritage Environment Scotland.  Our return route will be by riverside path and through RSPB Alloa Wetlands,…then returning to start.

The Guided Tour of Clackmannan Tower will take approximately one hour.   The Tour is now fully booked

TILLICOULTRY TO DOLLAR CIRCUIT   

Grade: C. Distance: 8miles; 5 hours. Meet/time: 10:00 am Devon Way Car Park opposite Devonvale Hall in Moss Road, Tillicoultry (Nr. Sterling Mills) Map Ref: NS920967. Description: A lovely circular walk taking in both sides of the Devon Valley. Starting from Devonside the route follows woodland and riverside paths with lovely views to the Ochil Hills. We pass the site of the former Tillicoultry Colliery from which famously on 25 November 1952 the first underground live TV pictures were broadcast. The return from Dollar is on estate tracks and passes the site of the former Harvieston Castle now demarked by two giant sequoia trees. On the outward section paths can be muddy at times. STIRLING (A GENTLE…’GET BACK TO NORMAL’) WALK…..on pavements and paths

Grade: C. Distance: 5.5 or 7.5 miles; 3 or 4 hours. Meet/time: VUE CP to leave at 10am.  Description: Along the Forth …then crossing the bridge to Cambuskenneth.  Head towards “Wallace Monument” then left to “Causwayhead”….left to “Old Stirling Bridge”….right to “Business Centre, Raploch”….left to lower path behind “Castle” to “Smith Gallery.”    From here, some may want to head for “Shopping Centre Sales!”    🎁
Others will continue to “Golf Course” where we will walk the outer “Course” path to “Club House” and then return to the “VUE” through “Shopping Centre.”
